 Bates Accelerated Learning Academy has a primary focus on improving literacy skills. Our school's focus on reading requires that the bulk of our financial resources be directed to enhance and support reading initiatives with proven success. To promote enhanced academic success, we address nontraditional academic factors that affect student achievement such as absentee parents, familial abuse, malnourishment, poverty, low self-esteem, and lack of adult supervision. Therefore, we have catered our goals to aide in enhancing the usual educational outcome. We at Bates Accelerated Learning Academy have embraced these goals as followed:

1. Provide high quality health intervention activities
2. Connect children with long-term mentors
3. Provide high-quality educational after-school and summer program
4. Develop positive social skills to address delinquency, communication, and self-advocacy

Bates Accelerated Learning Academy prioritizes learning and improvement by maintaining high expectations for teachers and students. Teachers receive ongoing professional development and collaborate to make data-driven instructional decisions.

Students benefit from a core reading program with an enrichment and intervention block, organized into skill-based groups. Advanced students are challenged with rigorous content, while those needing support receive small group or one-on-one remediation tailored to their needs.
